QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid Tennessee teacher's license with the appropriate endorsement, preferred

2. Appropriate administrative or supervisory certification and experience

3. Understanding of TSSAA bylaws in additional to board policies and other regulations pertaining to secondary athletics and activities

4. Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility as related to secondary athletics

5. Communications skills related to social media, marketing, and overall public relations

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: The Cleveland High School Athletics and Activities Director is responsible for providing educational opportunities beyond the regular classroom through extracurricular activities and interscholastic competition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Support coaches, student-athletes, parents, and community in understanding and putting into action the role of educationally based athletics at Cleveland High School

2. Assist with coordination of events at the school related to clubs and other organizations as it relates to the master calendar, use of facilities, and marketing

3. Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics for the school

4. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members, in conjunction with their responsibilities as a classroom teacher

5. Fosters good school/community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program through presentations and other means

6. Coordinates officials, team medical staff, and security as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games

7. Supports coaches in the development of season schedules and coordination of transportation and meals

8. Monitors academic progress of student-athletes

9. Verifies each athlete's eligibility according to established TSSAA requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport

10. Supervises the physical examinations for all athletes prior to the beginning of each season

11. Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities and supervises athletic department's adherence to the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association's (TSSAA) rules and regulations, school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies

12. Participates in the planning and monitoring of fundraisers, tickets, budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial matters for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits, and/or fiscal practices are followed

13. Supervises the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of uniforms and equipment for athletic programs

14. Makes arrangements for non-school use of playing fields and facilities

15. Supports visiting team in their facility and travel needs

16. Administers the insurance program covering school athletes, and assumes responsibility for processing of all reports and claims

17. Works to establish open lines of communication with coaches, athletes, parents, and teachers, and makes provisions for being available for athletic related purposes outside the school day when required to do so under reasonable terms

18. Holds pre and post season meetings with head coaches related to season expectations and other necessary information related to that sport.

19. Conducts training sessions with all coaches related to TSSAA and system regulations, communications, finances, etc.

20. Develops, updates, and ensures training of the Cleveland High School Athletics Manual

21. Ensures all athletic schedules, rosters, etc. are on the website(s), updated as needed, and accessible to all.

22. Ensures social media updates are monitored for usage in all athletic programs.

23. Serves as the communication liaison between the athletics department and local media pertaining to athletics

24. Supervises and works with School Support Organizations. Ensures state laws and board policies are followed

25. Ensures all non-faculty coaches have followed the proper Cleveland City Schools procedures to work with students at CHS and for payroll purposes

26. Conducts an annual inventory of school athletic equipment as well as equipment purchased by SSO groups, etc

27. Performs other related duties assigned by the Principal
